At Little Roots Academy, academics aren’t rushed or watered down. They’re designed with purpose . The goal is that your child arrives at kindergarten confident, curious, and prepared.
Our curriculum is built on two foundational pillars: the Science of Reading and a play-based learning philosophy. Research-informed instruction gives children the tools they need. Play gives them the space to use those tools with confidence and joy.
From sitting in circle time to holding a pencil correctly, we practice the real-life classroom skills that make the kindergarten transition smooth, calm, and exciting.
We follow the Science of Reading to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, and early comprehension skills. Children begin building the reading foundation that will carry them through every grade level ahead.
Number sense, counting, patterns, shapes, and early problem solving — all introduced through hands-on activities that make math feel like play. Because at this age, it should.
Using a Love and Logic inspired approach, we help children build emotional regulation, independence, and the social skills to navigate friendships, routines, and challenges. A child who feels confident in themselves is a child ready to learn.
Classroom Structure
At Little Roots Academy, our classrooms are intentionally small and every room is thoughtfully organized to encourage exploration, independence, and focused learning. We believe the environment itself is a teacher. Every shelf, every station, and every corner of our classrooms is designed with purpose, inviting children to discover, create, and build confidence through meaningful play and structured learning.
Every classroom at Little Roots is staffed with two dedicated teachers, keeping our student to teacher ratio well below the Idaho state guideline of 1 to 12. Because we know that the magic happens in the small moments. The one on one conversation during centers. The teacher who notices a child is struggling before they even raise their hand. The extra encouragement that turns a hesitant learner into a confident one. A low student to teacher ratio is not just a number. It is the difference between a child who gets through the day and a child who truly thrives.
Our youngest learners are welcomed into a warm, nurturing environment designed to build confidence and spark curiosity. Through guided play, storytime, sensory exploration, and structured activities, Caterpillars begin building the social and academic foundations that will grow with them.
Our kindergarten-prep classrooms are where the academic foundations really take root. Children are engaged in more structured literacy and math instruction, hands-on projects, and deeper social-emotional learning — all in preparation for a confident kindergarten transition.
